In the first five months of 2014 exports of agricultural products to Russia dropped by more than 30% compared with the same period of 2013, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.
«I’m afraid even to name this figure, but exports to Russia declined by 30% compared with the same period of past year. In fact, it is even more than 30% compared with January-May 2013,» Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Ihor Shvaika told journalists in Kyiv.
He said that the limitations for supplies of Ukrainian foodstuffs to Russia leads to decrease of production of agricultural products in the country, decline of purchasing prices, in particular, for milk.
As a reminder, import of meat and milk products, confectionery and potato from Ukraine to Russia has been limited. Recently, RosSelkhozNadzor (Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of Russia) announced that it may prohibit supplies of crop growing industry from Ukraine to Russia due to the spread of western corn rootworm on its territory.
Corn may be primarily affected by the limitations. The prohibition will apply to supplies to all means of transport.
