Director of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center Mykola Kulbida forecasts that this year Ukrainian agrarians will gather the harvest of grain crops and grain legumes, which will be one of the record harvests over the years of Ukraine’s independence. In total, it will amount to around 63 mn t, he said to the journalists.
“The gross harvest of all grain crops in Ukraine will amount to around 63 mn t. It is possible that the next time we make a re-forecast we will add 1-2 mn t to this amount. It will be one of the biggest harvests in Ukraine,” he noted.
As Kulbida reported, the agrometeorologists estimate the harvest of winter grains at 29.3 mn t, summer barley – 5.3 mn t, summer wheat – 0.4 mn t, corn – 29.3 mn t, other grains – around 1.3 mn t.
At that, the harvest in Crimea is also taken into account in the specified forecast, he noticed. That’s why we need to deduct 1.2 mn t from the expected harvest.
Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center explaines such high results by good weather conditions for winter crops during last winter and for summer crops during the spring sowing campaign.
In 2013 the Ukrainian agrarians harvested 62.9 mn t of crops, which is 36.3% more than the same indicator in 2012, according to the State Statistics Service.
As Capital reported, in 2013/2014 marketing year (July 2013 – June 2014) the Ukrainian agrarians increased grain export to 32.4 mn t, which is 42.1% more than the previous season.
