Sales of used cars drop 76% in H1 2014

In January-June 2014 sales of used cars dropped by 76% to 14,900 vehicles compared with the first half year of 2013, reported the press service of Association of Ukrainian Motor Vehicle Manufacturers UkrAutoprom.

During this period sales of used commercial vehicles decreased by 78% to 12,927 units, cars – by 59% to 1,656, buses – by 71% to 281 vehicles, according to UkrAutoprom.

At that, sales of used vehicles, the most popular segment of the commercial vehicles, amounted to 6,256 units in June, which is 2.5 times more than in May 2014.

In June 53 used buses were sold, which is 83% more than the previous month.

Sales of used passenger cars at the primary market in June amounted to 379 vehicles, but in this case UkrAutoprom doesn’t provide comparative data.

Share of used cars at the primary market of Ukraine in June amounted to 49.5% this year. “Cancellation of the ecological tax, which prevented imports of used cars from abroad, facilitated increase of sales,” UkrAutoprom said.

The most popular cars among the commercial vehicles were Renault (1,525 vehicles), Volkswagen (1,160) and Mercedes-Benz (792). Mercedes-Benz was the most popular brand among the used buses (29 units).

As Capital reported, primary market of the commercial vehicles in Ukraine amounted to 6,685 units in June 2014, which is 45% less than in June 2013.
