State Railway Transport of Ukraine (Ukrzaliznytsya) has reduced its passenger turnover by 26.8%, a record, based on the results of the first six months of the year as compared with the same period of the previous year, reported information-analytical group UkrRudProm.
Over the six months, the passenger turnover of the Ukrainian railway amounted to 17.8 bn passenger kilometers. At that the decrease on the long-distance train is even higher – 40.5% and in suburban trains – minus 0.1%.
The last time a decline in passenger turnover was observed in 1991, while the biggest decrease of passenger turnover over the period of Ukraine’s independence (9%) was observed in 2009.
