Ukraine plans to receive gas for heating from Crimea

Crimea annexed by Russia will supply gas to the neighboring Henichesk County in Kherson oblast during the heating season 2014-2015, announced Head of Kherson Oblast State Administration Yuriy Odarchenko.

“This is a difficult issue concerning heating of Henichesk County. Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Yuriy Prodan held a meeting with the Oblast State Administration and we received clear statements that Henichesk County will be supplied with gas, and there are certain agreements on gas supply in this deadlock situation. The minister announced that gas will be supplied to Kherson oblast through the gas networks, including from the Crimean peninsula,” said Odarchenko.

Crimea and Kherson oblast are strongly connected between one another in terms of power supply, according to the minister. The residents of Crimea receive electric energy from Kherson oblast and in case of suspension of gas supplies we can do the same, for example, reduce electricity supply. I think that the issue of settlements for gas and for electricity is tied in this case,” emphasized Odarchenko.
