Ukraine, the second largest coal producer in Europe, may reduce coal export due to the shortage of fuel in the country following decline of output and disruption of railroad operation in the zones of the combat actions, reported mass media with reference to the Independent Trade Union of Coal Miners of Ukraine, according to Finance.ua.
Ukraine, which energy is 40% dependant on coal mining, may suspend the operation of power stations on Wednesday upon the announcement of possible emergency situation in the fuel and energy sector.
“The issue (on export reduction - Capital) has been discussed by the Cabinet of Ministers as one of the options for solution to the problem of fuel shortage in the country,” said Chairman of Independent Trade Union of Miners of Ukraine Mykhaylo Volynets. According to the union, in July coal output in Ukraine decreased by 22% to 5.58 mn t at an annual rate.
“Introduction of the emergency situation in fuel and energy complex would allow for suspending the operation of unprofitable thermal power stations (TPS) and loading other TPS,” said managing director of Energy Resources of Ukraine Andriy Favorov.
