ResourcesGroysman — There is a shortage of coal and gas in Ukraine
Deputy Premier, Minister of the Regional Development, Construction and Housing Utility Services of Ukraine, Head of the Anti-Crisis Energy Staff Volodymyr Groysman specified at a briefing the volume of coal and gas which Ukraine lacks until the end of 2014. Thus, the shortage of coal amounts to 5 mn t until the end of the year, according to Groysman. At that, Groysman noted that the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry is searching for possible variants of coal import from other countries to compensate this shortage.
«The issue of gas is still serious enough; as of today the shortage at around 5 bn t has accumulated during September-April, according to our estimates,» added the deputy premier specifying that the country needs around 28 bn cu m of natural gas for the heating season.
As Capital reported, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has reached an agreement with the Republic of South Africa on supply of 1 mn t of coal.
Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Yuriy Prodan said that Ukraine is planning to accumulate 17.2-17.5 bn cu m of gas in underground gas storage facilities by the beginning of November.
