Over the next five years Ukraine is planning to reduce gas consumption by 50%, said Deputy Minister of the Regional Development, Construction and Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine Andriy Bilousov, as the press service of the ministry reported.

In particular, we can achieve such result thanks to the operation of 498 alternative fuel boiler rooms which will lead to 4% gas saving, said Bilousov.

In addition, around 7% of gas will be saved thanks to the optimization of gas consumption at the apartment buildings and turning off heating at several apartments and buildings. The gas consumption will be reduced by 4.6% thanks to the modernization of the boiler rooms and heating systems, according to the minister.

“Around 15% of natural gas will be saved thanks to those measures and other 15% (which should be saved this year) will be saved thanks to the late starting and early finishing of the heating season,” informed Bilousov.

The deputy minister also said that the government has solved the problems of natural gas in the heating energy sector and this will lead to the favourable conditions for attracting investors to the thermal power market.

As Capital reported, the Executive Committee of Kryviy Rih City Council has reduced the heating season by two months in 2014-2015.
