Putin nominates candidates for posts of Crimea, Sevastopol heads

Russian President Vladimir Putin has nominated Sergey Aksyonov, Gennady Narayev and Alexander Terentyev for the post of the head of the Republic of Crimea, the Kremlin reported Wednesday.

Aksyonov is acting head of Crimea, Narayev holds the post of the republic’s environment and natural resources minister and Terentyev is a deputy of the State Duma, the lower house of Russia’s parliament, ITAR-TASS reports.

Putin also nominated acting governor of the federal city of Sevastopol Sergey Menyailo, Sevastopol legislature lawmaker Vasily Parkhomenko and Sevastopol gubernatorial aide Oleg Roslyakov for the post of the city governor, the Kremlin said.

Crimea and Sevastopol adopted declarations of independence on March 11. They held a referendum on March 16, in which 96.77% of Crimeans and 95.6% of Sevastopol voters chose to secede from Ukraine and join the Russian Federation. Putin signed the reunification deals March 18.
