Centerenergo to purchase coal from RSA at a higher price than from Russia

The coal which is imported from the Republic of South Africa to Centerenergo controlled by the Ukrainian government costs US $91 per one ton while the Russian coal costs US $80 per one ton, informed Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Yuriy Prodan.

“The first ship with coal will arrive from RSA by the end of this or beginning of the next month,” he said.

Prodan noted that the first shipment of coal will amount to around 87,000 t, and the monthly coal supplies will amount 250,000 t, according to the agreement with RSA.

The minister specified that Centerenergo will partially purchase coal from Russia while the South African coal is on the way to Ukraine.
