Finance Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Shlapak has forecasted that the hryvnia exchange rate will start stabilizing this week, and expects that the range will be UAH 13-13.50/$1.
"I think that the results will come during this week… I'm sure that a exchange rate of around UAH 13-13.50/$1 is the largest exchange rate with we can absolutely calmly cope in this situation," he told reporters in Kyiv on Tuesday, commenting on the results of a meeting with the participation of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk, top managers of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) and commercial banks.
Shlapak said that the president ordered the NBU to work with commercial banks and banks – to work with their exporters, so that the situation on the currency market stabilizes using administrative measures.
The finance minister said that the hryvnia exchange rate from UAH 15/$1 and higher and the uncontrolled outflow of deposits from banks will cause problems in the banking system.
