Ukraine confirmed that it is short of EUR 620 mn for the construction of the New Shelter at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant (Kyiv oblast), said first Deputy Head of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine Mykhaylo Hashev.
"The fact is that the situation is not connected with the increasing of volumes of work. We have the project which was approved by the government. We are running short of EUR 620 mn, but the negotiations over the past two months, in particular, in London, were successful. We will find the money and the work will not stop for a minute," said Hashev.
The Chernobyl Shelter Fund was created by the leading industrialized countries in 1997. Now it finances the Implementation Plan of the construction of the New Shelter over the reactor which was damaged at Chornobyl NPP in 1986.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development forecasts that the construction of the New Shelter at Chornobyl NPP will be completed in spring 2017.
