The situation in Ukraine is the result of the crisis of the European security system, Russian Foreign Minister Serhiy Lavrov said Friday.
"The crisis of Europe's entire security system occurred not as a result of the events in Ukraine, on the contrary, the events in Ukraine have become a reflection of the deep controversies that have been building up in the Euro-Atlantic [region]," Lavrov told reporters on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York.
Russia is not planning to undermine the Ukrainian economy, said Lavrov.
"Nobody has considered or planning to consider any punitive measures against Ukraine, or actions to undermine the Ukrainian economy," told Russian Foreign Minister.
