Norwegian authorities have decided to join the latest EU's sanctions against Russia, introduced on September 12 in connection with the situation in Ukraine, according to a press release from the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, posted on the Web site of the agency.

"The fragile truce is observed, but Russia did not meet the demands of the international community, including the immediate, complete withdrawal of military equipment and personnel from the Ukrainian territory," Norwegian Foreign Minister Borge Brende said.

According to the statement, "Russia has not demonstrated the willingness to change its policy in Ukraine."

The decision to tighten sanctions was approved by King Harald V of Norway and came into force immediately.

On September 12, the EU authorities included 24 people in the EU sanctions list, including a number of the State Duma deputies and the heads of the self-proclaimed republics in Ukraine, and also imposed sanctions on several Russian oil companies and defense enterprises.
