de-escalationPoroshenko and Putin agreed on holding elections in Donbas under the laws of Ukraine
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and President of Russia Vladimir Putin have agreed on execution of the Minsk Protocol “for creation of trust between the sides”, said President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso following the results of the full-scale meeting involving the leaders of the EU and presidents of Ukraine and Russia today in Milan.
The key points of the agreements are verification of the regime of the ceasefire, holding elections in Donbas in accordance with the Ukrainian legislation and control of the border, according to Barroso.
“This is important not only for Ukraine but for all Europe and relations between EU and Russia. That is why we expect that these agreements will be confirmed,” he emphasized.
