Russia is ready to accept elections of the leadership of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics scheduled for November 2, Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov said in an interview for Izvestia newspaper.
The elections of the chairmen of two republics and also deputies of the DPR and LPR parliaments will be important in the view of legitimization of power, he said.
“We believe that this is one of the most important directions of Minsk agreements. We expect that the elections will be held as we agreed, and we of course will accept their results. We hope that the will is free and no one from outside will not try to disrupt it,” said Lavrov.
As a reminder, the DPR and LNR planned holding the local elections on November 2, while according to the Ukrainian law, they will be held on December 7. In addition, the local authorities of Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts but not the leadership of the so called people’s republics should be elected.
