Energetic work has been done in the past few months to prepare various restrictive measures against Russia and these propositions are still valid, Maja Kocijancic, spokesperson for EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, said at a press briefing in Brussels on Tuesday.
She added they would need a new legislative initiative for adding something to the existent sanctions bills.
The EU foreign ministers will have a final say, Kocijancic said.
The foreign ministers will speak about the Ukrainian situation on Monday and take into account the developments to which the EU has responded, Kocijancic said.
Asked for being more specific about proposals of the new sanctions, she said the EU had various response options, including restrictive measures, but any decision concerning possible adjustments of the sanctions would have to be made by the ministers.
