Ukraine's parliamentary parties initial coalition agreement

Ukraine's five parties that passed the 5% threshold in the October 26 parliamentary elections have initialed a draft coalition agreement.

This announcement was made by members of the group responsible for drawing up this document - authorized representatives of the political forces that signed the draft agreement.

The five parties include the Petro Poroshenko's Bloc, the People's Front, Samopomich, Oleh Liashko's Radical Party and Batkivschyna.

The Petro Poroshenko Bloc was the last to sign the draft document.

A total of 421 candidates were elected to the Verkhovna Rada in the October 26 polls. Of them, 225 were elected based on party lists, and 196 in districts using a first-past-the-post electoral system.

The Petro Poroshenko bloc will control 132 seats in Ukraine's new parliament, the People's Front 82, Somopomich 33, the Opposition Bloc 29, Oleh Liashko's Radical Party 22, Batkivschyna 19, and the far-right party Svoboda (Freedom) six. The Strong Ukraine party, Zastup, Volia and the Right Sector each saw one of their representatives elected in districts using a first-past-the-post system. Self-nominated candidates were also elected in the country's 94 first-past-the-post electoral districts.
