EIB Board of Directors approved EUR 1 bn loan to Ukraine

The Board of Directors of the European Investment Bank (EIB) has approved a loan in the amount of EUR 1 bn to Ukraine, as a part of EUR 3 bn package of special measures for the country for the period of 2014-2016, according to the press service of EIB.

The EIB Board of Directors also approved the allocation of the EUR 50 mn loan to the international biotechnology company Bavarian Nordic to help find a vaccine against Ebola virus.

“The decisions on financing projects in Ukraine and assistance to the projects in finding solutions to the pandemic virus Ebola are evidence of that the EIB does not avoid the approval of the necessary decisions even under difficult and uncomfortable conditions,” said EIB President Werner Hoyer.

As a reminder, the EIB has planned to sign with Ukraine three agreements in the amount of EUR 1 bn by the end of the year. The EIB also plans to allocate EUR 200 mn loan for the Donbas.
