The Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics are not seeking special status of the oblasts but demand equal rights from Kyiv, said Representative of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic Oleksandr Zakharchenko in an interview for Business FM.
“I emphasize that we maintain only the following position – to hold negotiations with Kiev on equal terms. We will not negotiate on any special statuses. We can accept the postponed status, but that is a different question. We should concentrate on troop withdrawal from the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts and after that we will sit at the negotiation table and talk about our partnership with Kyiv as equal partners. We do not want to depend territorially, politically and financially on Ukraine, we just want to be equal partners,” said Zakharchenko.
To date, Russia and western countries did not recognize the DPR and LPR. Ukraine considers them the terrorist organizations.
