The creation of any "people's police" units in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions is possible only if they are fully subordinated to the Ukrainian authorities, Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko has said.
"The question of the formation of the so-called people's police units is unacceptable. This is possible only in one case - if these units are subordinated to Ukrainian legislation and to the Ukrainian authorities and law enforcement agencies," he said at a briefing on Wednesday.
Petrenko said that the Ukrainian government and the Justice Ministry had not participated in the drafting of the law on the special status of certain districts of Donbas.
"Unfortunately, the government and the Justice Ministry did not participate in the drafting of these laws, in the negotiation process," he added.
Petrenko said that it was important to establish peace in Ukraine, but not at any cost. He said that Ukraine would not resort to the legitimization of the DPR and LPR.
