Premier Arseniy Yatsenyuk has requested the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine to consider the problem of unpaid for use of the energy sources on the territories occupied by the insurgents.
“I believe that this is an issue of NSDC. I will speak with the president, we will propose the issue for consideration at the NSDC meeting. Hundreds millions of dollars, de facto one billion dollars, which we will never receive, are spent on these territories,” he said.
According to Naftogaz of Ukraine, 27 mn cu m of gas were consumed in September and around 100 mn cu m of gas were consumed in October without proper accounting and payment by the territories controlled by the insurgents.
At that, around 1 bn cu m of gas can be consumed by DPR and LPR until the end of the year, which will lead to UAH 6-7 bn (US $460-470 mn) losses of Naftogaz. Ukrtransgaz technically has opportunities to limit gas supply to these territories.
