Kyiv invites Moscow to begin de-escalation talks

Ukraine has urged Russia to begin talks on de-escalation of the situation in eastern Ukraine, said Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

"We are inviting Russia to serious talks in some neutral territory. The United States and European Union countries are helping us in that," Yatsenyuk said at a joint press conference with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg in Kyiv on Tuesday.

"It all depends on the Russia president in the first place, and on his entourage. If he makes up his mind and if he has enough political will to end this war against Ukraine and to observe international law, we will be ready to continue our talks," the Ukrainian prime minister said.

Behind the Russian leader's words are "mere promises, with no real action," Yatsenyuk said.
