Poroshenko signs decree granting Ukrainian citizenship to Zguladze

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that he has signed a decree granting Ukrainian citizenship to Ekaterina Zguladze, who is to be appointed Ukraine's first deputy interior minister.

"I have signed a decree granting Ukrainian citizenship to a candidate for the post of first deputy interior minister - Mrs. Zguladze," he wrote on his page on Twitter.

According to the presidential press service, Poroshenko also noted that the granting of citizenship to Zguladze "is of state interest to Ukraine."

"I, as president, have high hopes for you, and I hope that your unique role in government will help reform the system of a Soviet-type interior ministry into the European interior ministry system," he said at the meeting with Zguradze.

Poroshenko said that the Ukrainian authorities "have a solid, strong political will to carry out a total transformation of the country."

As reported, Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov earlier signed a request to Poroshenko to grant Ukrainian citizenship to Zguladze, who is to be appointed his first deputy.
