Ukraine has submitted for approval of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) its amendments to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material, according to which Russia is responsible for the nuclear facilities located on the territory of occupied Crimea, stated Chairman of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU) Serhiy Bozhko.

«We have drafted the corresponding amendments to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material and basic documents, relating to non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, which clearly show what the country should do if it finds itself in such situation as Ukraine and Russia,» said Bozhko.

«The amendments are very simple, they relate to the fact that the invading country bears full responsibility for everything that happens at the facility. But at the same time, our country, as the owner of the nuclear unit, is responsible for its physical protection and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons,» explained Bozhko.
