Ukrainian nuclear power plants (NPP) have enough fuel stocks to last until June 2015, First Deputy Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Yuriy Ziukov has said at a meeting of the Coordinating Council on the Restoration of Ukrainian statehood in Donbas and Crimea.
"The power units of the nuclear power system are provided with nuclear fuel until June 2015. Now there is the question with the removal of spent nuclear fuel to Russia. Negotiations with Rosatom are being held on this subject," he said.
As reported, in addition to Russian nuclear fuel under the contract with TVEL (Russia), Ukraine buys fuel produced by transnational company Westinghouse.
Ukraine in January-June 2014 bought fresh nuclear fuel of Russian origin to the tune of $279.289 million. In 2013, Ukraine bought Russian fuel for $600.596 million.
In 2012, Ukraine purchased fuel totaling $600.334 million, in particular from Russia – for $555.355 million, from Sweden - for $44.979 million.
